Get ready to transform legal work with LawVu and Microsoft Copilot

With stretched resources, constant administration and high volumes of complex requests, contracts and tasks stemming from every department, it’s no wonder in-house lawyers seek effective, secure ways to speed up processes, reuse previous work and reduce duplication.

LawVu’s new integration with Microsoft Copilot represents a significant leap forward in legal technology and marks a new beginning: re-imagining legal workflows to allow businesses to tap into their rich LawVu repository and move legal work forward without having to leave their current Microsoft 365 tools.

We know many are just beginning their AI and Copilot journey, so we’re excited to make this integration available early. In doing so, we’re able to listen and respond to the emerging needs of our customers, and build more functionality as Copilot evolves.

In this article, we introduce LawVu’s integration with Copilot, along with the capabilities you can expect to see this year. We also explore how using Copilot in your Microsoft 365 workspace will enable you to find, action and leverage your legal work – all in an instant.

It’s also a reminder of the power of one source of truth. Managing and recording all your legal work in one secure centralized legal workspace will put you in the best position to unlock the full productivity gains of Copilot and LawVu’s entire suite of AI.

LawVu and Copilot: A powerful combination to accelerate legal work

In-house legal teams dedicate extensive hours to ensuring every matter, contract and legal request is handled and delivered with the utmost care and precision. Why wouldn’t you want to reference this valuable information on the spot during a Teams conversation or while working in Microsoft 365? And what if you could use these tools to quickly progress critical workflows without breaking your current flow?

Our integration with Copilot is being developed with the following guiding principles in mind:

  • Give legal teams more time to focus on high-value work
  • Meet people where they work for effortless collaboration
  • Enable legal to securely harness their own work and data

Microsoft 365 Copilot is an AI-powered chat tool that works alongside you, embedded in the Microsoft 365 apps you use every day. It securely combines the power of large language models (LLMs) with your data to turn your words into highly-productive queries and actions. By connecting LawVu’s centralized platform for managing and storing all legal work with Copilot, enterprise legal teams can seamlessly access their legal information and progress processes quickly within Teams and other Microsoft 365 applications.

2024 roadmap: How LawVu and Copilot will work together

This innovative integration means you can extend the value of your legal repository – simply by chatting with Copilot in Teams or Microsoft 365. Prompt Copilot using natural language to query records in your LawVu workspace. Copilot will then pull key information from a LawVu matter or contract and display a summary within the direct chat, including a link to open the matter or contract in LawVu.

Later this year, you’ll also be able to take actions, such as creating and assigning matters or approving contracts in LawVu using Copilot in Teams and Microsoft 365.

Available now: Query and view LawVu matters and contracts records with Copilot in Teams and Microsoft 365 apps from your desktop, web app or mobile. Copilot will interpret your prompts from simple language. Here are some examples:

  • “Get matters from LawVu related to data privacy”
  • “Show me my LawVu matters”
  • “Show me details about a LawVu matter called ABC marketing email”
  • “Show me all my LawVu matters with a due date next week”
  • “Show me all LawVu matters assigned to Tia”
  • “Get contract NDA for Microsoft with status Open”
  • “Get all open contracts from LawVu due next week”

Coming next: Create a LawVu matter using a Copilot action in Teams and Microsoft 365, and query matters in Intake and assign them to a legal team member. You’ll also be able to query contracts in LawVu which are pending approval, and approve them using a Copilot action in your organization’s Teams and Microsoft 365 applications.

Expedite urgent sales contracts from anywhere with LawVu and Copilot

The following workflow demonstrates how LawVu customers will soon be able to use Copilot to unblock and speed up common, time-sensitive contract workflows end-to-end, ensuring that every stakeholder can easily progress legal work from within their existing Teams or Microsoft 365 workspace.

copilot workflow

Step one: Kick off a contract request with Copilot in Teams

Ari, a Sales Executive, needs a contract drafted quickly. Using Copilot in Teams, he initiates a legal request by typing, “Create a matter in LawVu to draft a sales contract for Holistic Health.” Copilot responds with a legal request form, which Ari completes and submits to the legal team.

Step two: Assign a legal request with Copilot in Microsoft 365

Cody, an in-house lawyer, is overwhelmed with requests. He uses Copilot to query, “Show me matters that need assigning.” Copilot generates a list of pending requests, allowing Cody to assign tasks efficiently and keep workflows moving.

Step three: Approve a contract with Copilot on mobile

Tia, a CFO, uses Copilot on her mobile device to approve urgent contracts. She asks Copilot, “Show me contracts that need my approval today.” Copilot identifies the pending contracts, which Tia reviews and approves on the go, preventing any delays to critical processes.

And that’s it! LawVu takes care of the rest, automatically sending the contract out for signature. Tia can focus on her conversation with the CEO, Cody can focus on more strategic work, and Ari’s still on track to close the deal before the end of the quarter.
