LawVu’s Product & Engineering team is looking for a Principal Engineer, who takes pride in creating beautiful solutions that can scale to meet our rapid global growth and expansion. We are looking for a technical leader with strong experience in hyper growth & data platforms, as well as a passion for utilising the latest emerging Gen AI trends to keep our user experiences at the cutting edge of technology in a way that provides solutions to real world problems and delivers value to help accelerate the world’s legal work. 

As a Principal Engineer at LawVu you’ll be expected to think ahead, design for change and build robust solutions. You will inspire, challenge and mentor our existing team of highly skilled and experienced engineers and analysts to the next level in their careers.

What you’ll do

• Lead the design, development and deployment of cutting edge solutions, with a particular focus on our Data and Analytics platform, as well as emerging Generative AI technologies
• Instill a culture of engineering excellence and best practices in everything you do and in those around you  
• Be a leader of our technical architecture and system design by driving decisions and technical strategy to support a scalable and robust infrastructure
• Challenge the status quo to ensure we are thinking creatively and reaching our full potential
• Prioritise secure development and instill a culture of security first design
• Technical guidance and mentorship of team members including conducting code reviews, providing feedback and ensuring high-quality code standards
• Work closely with the wider product and engineering leadership team to develop product and platform roadmaps and initiatives, championing scalability, performance and cost to serve initiatives
• Work with product teams and customers on product discovery
• Stay updated with the latest industry trends and emerging technologies

What you’ll bring

Required:

• 8+ years of experience designing, building and supporting large scale modern data platforms
• Experience designing, implementing and deploying ETL/ELT pipelines, data lakehouse (medallion) architectures and metadata driven frameworks
• Experience with streaming and batch processing architectures
• Expert level knowledge in cloud computing platforms such as Azure (preferred), AWS, or GCP
• Experience in owning, maintaining, and building solutions on a modern data platform such as Databricks (preferred), Azure Synapse etc.
• Experience in visualization tools such as Power BI 
• Strong SQL and Python (PySpark) experience
• Experience with CICD, DataOps, and MLOps using Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions
• Comfortable working in an Agile development environment
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders internally and externally.

Beneficial:

• Knowledge and experience in generative AI and RAG architectures
• Experience in data governance tools such as Unity Catalog or Purview

Preferred locations are Tauranga, Auckland and Wellington, but other locations will be considered for the right person.
