Walkthrough – GC Dashboard

1. LawVu has out of the box reports and dashboards for all of the capabilities in the legal workspace: matters (all legal matters, projects, advice and other work being done for the business); contract data from the integrated CLM; and outside spend.

Step 1 image

2. The GC dashboard combines key metrics from across the workspace in one dashboard. Let's explore the interactive dashboard and consider some ways to use the data along the way.

Click the left arrow to collapse the reporting pane.

Step 2 image

3. Data is collected constantly as your team manages work in LawVu. It's important you can easily understand your data - so if you need more information you can click here and get to a useful explanation.

Step 3 image

4. This is the help article with an overview, key metrics explained, and tips and tricks to use the dashboard to get more insights. 24/7 support is always available in the chat in the lower right, too.

Step 4 image

5. The GC dashboard is designed to make regular reporting and spotting trends easy. By default, it shows current year- to-date data. You may want to interrogate or report on a different timeframe. Click Current Year to change the year.

Step 5 image

6. Click 2023

Step 6 image

7. The entire dashboard has changed to show 2023 data. Key metrics about the volume of work and your spend with outside counsel are here. They are automatically compared to the previous time period (in this case 2022) so you can see trends.

Step 7 image

8. You might want to review or report on trends and workload quarterly for your board or leadership team.

Click Quarterly View to change the dashboard.

Step 8 image

9. This shows current quarter data, and comparisons to the previous quarter.

So far this quarter we have started 85 matters -- or pieces of legal work. Almost 70% are with outside counsel.
Should we upskill to do more work in-house? Adjust budget?

Step 9 image

10. You can click Download page to generate a shareable .pdf of your report. The .pdf will be filtered, like your dashboard, so you can share data about your selected time period or specific insights. Or you can regularly share the entire dashboard.

Step 10 image

11. Click Yearly View to get back to the yearly view and we'll explore a little more.

Step 11 image

12. This section is a workload breakdown for matters and contracts. We see the most common types of work this year, and their volume last year.

This shows trends we can use to plan or communicate alignment with strategy.

Step 12 image

13. A few interactions with the dashboard can reveal useful insights.

Click Prev to see what the most common work types were last year.

Step 13 image

14. Now we can see that Advice, Contract Reviews and New Hire work were most common last year. Is there a data story here - for example, alignment with strategic initiative or supporting an acquisition? Are more people requesting legal advice now?

Step 14 image

15. Sometimes, a data point overwhelms the graph or is not useful for purpose. For example, we know that Advice is always a top matter type. Right click Advice to remove it, so we can dig in to the other types of work our team is handling.

Step 15 image

16. Click Exclude

Step 16 image

17. The dashboard is filtered and "advice" is removed, just like that! We can see that Contract Reviews, New Hires, and Contract Negotiations topped the list.

Step 17 image

18. This visualization communicates about the contracts in our repository - and a lot of them are NDAs. Can we automate them and save legal team time?

Now Right click NDA.

Step 18 image

19. Click Exclude to take them out of our view so we can dig deeper into the other contracts we're working on for the business.

Step 19 image

20. Now let's look at urgent, high risk and high complexity work. You can set these fields and definitions in LawVu at implementation.
Right click on the 5 high risk (level 5) matters.

Step 20 image

21. Click Drill through to get the detail of those matters if you'd like to talk through them with your team, take action, or provide an update on them to the leadership team or board.

Step 21 image

22. These are the high risk matters we have in flight. We can get more detail or ask for updates by going to the full record in LawVu, directly from this report click. Scroll up and click the arrow return to the full dashboard.

Step 22 image

23. Measuring and communicating about cycle times can be useful for SLAs, measuring the outcomes of strategic initiatives or taking actions across the business. These graphs show key cycle time metrics.

Step 23 image

24. Scroll down and click sales and service to get insights on how long this particular type of work is taking.

Step 24 image

25. Hover to see that Sales and Service work is taking an average of 65 days to complete. That may be expected. Or it may be an improvement we want to talk about. Or, it may signal an opportunity to redistribute work or hire for a special skill set.

Step 25 image

26. Scroll to see the spend section of the dashboard.

Step 26 image

27. We can see we have spent a lot this year on Property and Human Resources - and we can communicate the reason behind that when we share this data, and speak to the outcomes or alignment with business strategy. Hover on Property.

Step 27 image

28. Here you could choose to drill through to more detail.

Step 28 image

29. Now let's dig into the work we're doing with Choice Legal since they are the firm we have the most outside spend with. Hover on Choice Legal to see the summary of our work and payments to them.

Step 29 image

30. Hover Drill through

Step 30 image

31. Click Invoice Detail

Step 31 image

32. These are the invoices we have from Choice Legal. Some need review and approval. Should we shift budget? Plan for a conversation with them? Review our outstanding invoices? There may be useful insights and actions. Scroll up and click the arrow.

Step 32 image

33. The final section of the dashbaord shows how LawVu is being used and adopted. Scroll down and with your mouse, hover Records Created to see how many business users are requesting legal advice through the LawVu legal portal. Usage has grown!

Step 33 image

34. That's it!

Step 34 image
